Going away for a short period of time can make packing quite difficult. Taking large quantities of toiletries or moisturizers can feel excessive but after doing a few weekends away I feel like I’ve got it down. So, I’m here to share with you my weekend away packing guide for your makeup bag.
I always take a small bag of makeup whatever I’m doing, even though I don’t always wear it every day. You never quite know when you might want to put on a bit of lipstick or mascara when you go away for the weekend. So, these are my essential items that I know will give me a good look without excessive packing.
Bag and tools
I choose the smallest makeup bag I have meaning I only have limited space; this helps to not overpack. I then consider tools that I can use for more than one purpose so a bronzer brush can be used to apply blusher and vice versa. I usually take two or three brushes, eyelash curlers and the makeup bag itself. The brushes I take are…
- foundation brush
- blusher brush
- eyeshadow brush
I always take a tinted moisturiser, CC cream or some kind of light foundation. I try to pick a base product that will layer quite well in case I want fuller coverage. My current favourite is the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser SPF 30/PA+++, in Greonland. I’ve had it for form and style it’s so got about half left and it’s got great buildable coverage.
I try and take a multitasking product, often decanting it into a smaller pot, which is more transportable. I have actually been using the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation, in Santa Fe as a concealer for the last few months. I like the consistency and as with the product above, it’s buildable. I find so many concealers sit in my eye creases and make my skin look less flawless than I’d like.

I have managed to find a product that is kind of a hybrid between the two slight bronzing effects with a peachy pigment meaning I need 1 product. I have been using Tarte Fiesty Blush for a while and love it as a multitasking product but It’s not available in the UK so I have found a dupe… NARS Blush in Luster.

I tend to take one eye shadow depending on what I’m wearing the most at the time. I figure I can go without eye shadow or wear it and get two different looks. I always take a mascara, always waterproof and eyelash curlers. My favourite and has been for a long time is Lancome Monsieur Big.

I take a brow product that keeps them tidy. I love NYX Tinted Brow Mascara in the colour Brunette.

I usually take a darker lipstick, like a red or deep pink and a lip balm, that way I can have a nude lip in the day and if I want a stronger look, I have an option. Having a dark lip can mean you need very little other makeup this is a great tip for keeping your makeup bag light. My favourite red lip at the moment is Mac Lasting Passion a bight red that apparently suits everyone and smells like Mini Eggs!

And that’s it. I try to keep it to an absolute minimum, picking products there either multitask or work quickly easily and effectively. My rule when packing my makeup bag is will I use this? or do I need it? and this usually eliminates two or three products that I don’t think are essential for a couple of nights away.
