Well, it’s been a funny old time recently, hasn’t it! Being on lockdown has meant I have read a lot of books and watched a lot of TV and films. I’ve needed distraction and entertainment every day.
Usually, someone who reads a couple of books a month, I’ve read 7 since we started staying inside. So here is my reading and watching favourites for the last few months. Hopefully, you might like them too.
This is a blinder of a whodunit murder mystery. I loved the pace, twists and characters. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Based on a book shop owner who is asked to help an FBI detective. Some recent deaths have interesting links to murder mystery books and he is asked to offer advice. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So many revelations and twists to this story I found myself open-mouthed a few times and desperate to read on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank you to @unfinishedbookshelf for lending it to me! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A great read for the weekend.
Find it here… Rules For Perfect Murders
I loved this book. I am a big @laurajaneauthor fan, I thought Our Stop was one of the best books I read last year so this had a lot to live up to. ⠀
The story of Penny and her life is wonderful. I love that she wants to become a mother solo and isn’t reliant on a relationship to do so. I also love that she’s running a successful business on her terms after health issues. She’s a kickass feminist who you’d love to be friends with.
I read it so quickly, desperate to find out more. This is a wonderful love story not just about romantic love but about the love and support of family and friends. Funny and smart – the perfect summer read. ⠀⠀
Out in August but available to preorder now! ⠀⠀⠀
Find it here… Love Square
Read this excellent book by Holly Bourne last week. What a powerful book with a unique story, one that needs to be written about more. ⠀
It deals with rape and relationships in a frank and honest way. It’s important to normalise talking about these difficult subjects, reading about it through the character of April was incredibly powerful.
I sure there will be a lot of people this could help.
Find it here… Pretending
I loved this book by @betholearyauthor, its perfect for right now! A fun story that shows that you’re never too old. ⠀⠀⠀⠀
Funny and heartwarming, I couldn’t recommend this highly enough!
Find it here… The Switch
Well, this is a gem for anyone creative, wants to be creative or has struggled with being creative. It has lots of fabulous advice about showing up for your creativity, not putting pressure on your creativity to make you money. An essential read for a creative person.
Find it here… Big Magic
Just started this and I already love it. I am listening to it as an audiobook and hearing the inspiring stories and words of wisdom is super empowering.
Find it here… Untamed
I loved the book so much, finding the characters complex and well written. I loved that they were so normal, dealing with problems just like us all.
The TV show did not disappoint. I loved it all, the actors, the costumes, the settings. It was all perfectly put together.
I can’t imagine a more perfect representation of the book. I wish I hadn’t seen it so I can watch it all over again!
I love Romesh Ranganathan and put this on for a laugh. And it was just that, funny and light-hearted. A good thing to watch if you want to switch off and have a giggle.
Love the books, love the first two series and I am enjoying this one, but I haven’t really got into it yet. Must get into it this week.
Dead to me
I loved the first series.
This was excellent. I loved this untold story about the first female millionaire.
Entertaining but didn’t love it. Would have loved to know more about the character back history. It felt a bit of a throw lots of big names in and do some flashy things film. It was, however, entertaining enough to pass the time.
This is a fabulous film. A coming of age film about two girls that have always studied hard but had not partied or had a social life. A funny and heart-warming film.
This whodunit is entertaining, witty and has a fabulous few twists in it, my favourite. I saw it at the cinema and already want to watch it again.
This gripping thriller is based on real events. The film is about a senate staffer researching and reporting on the USAs Detain and Interrogation Programme. If you liked Zero Dark Thirty, this is for you. It isn’t an easy watch, but it is well made, and Adam Driver is his usual brilliant self.
Parasite on Curzon from June 1st
This is a brilliant film. I watched it at the cinema and will be watching it again on streaming. Dark, thrilling and captivating. One of the best films I’ve seen this year.
Queen & Slim streaming on Prime from May 25th
This is the best film I’ve seen this year and in my top 10 all-time. I deserved a much bigger audience. I have nothing else to say.
So, there you have it, a list of what I’ve been watching, reading and loving. I’d love to hear your recommendations too, leave a comment, send me a message on Instagram or email at firstname.lastname@example.org
I made a huge entertainment list here if you need some more ideas…
