February Book Club

Book ReviewIt’s that time again, gosh these months roll around fast, don’t they. It’s February book club time and there are some really great books in this post. I usually like all the books I read, but this month I love them, all of them!

The Minimalist Kitchen is one of the most beautiful cookbooks I’ve ever seen, Being a Writer is an excellent look at what the experts say about the profession and Yoga Rising is one of the best books I’ve ever read. As I said some absolute belters, have a look at what I thought…

February Book Club Reviews

Being a Writer: Advice, Musings, Essays and Experiences From the World’s Greatest Authors  -By Travis Elborough, Helen Gordon

An interesting concept for a book. Advice from the world’s greatest writers on how, when and where you should write. A book you can dip into different sections to gain advice. I loved the format, the design and the look of the book. Some of the quotes were incredibly inspiring and influenced my own practices as a writer. I’d highly recommend it.

Yoga Rising: 30 Empowering Stories from Yoga Renegades for Every Body – by Melanie C Klein

What a great book. Not what I expected, it was even better! A book that really taps into the way people are feeling at the moment. The need for self-love in society and the antidote to body perfection, this book is a breath of fresh air. Real people discussing their yoga and self acceptance journey. Loved the lessons to be learnt and the personal stories, ones that are incredibly relatable.

Souvenir (Object Lessons) – By Rolf Potts

Well researched, incredibly detailed and well written. The philosophy of why people collect souvenirs is explained and referenced with facts from history. The chapters are structures around the authors actual souvenirs, which makes for an interesting insight. I really liked this book, it played to my sense of curiosity and love of collecting things and the reasons for which we do.

The Colorful Kitchen: Simple Plant-Based Recipes for Vibrancy, Inside and Out – By Ilene Godofsky Moreno

Great plant-based cookbook. Innovative ideas with flavours and textures and a great concept; eat more colour! The intro is great, a nice piece about the author and her story, one that felt genuine and real. The style is nice, easy to read and follow and the images are attractive. I will definitely be making some of the delicious looking recipes.

The Main Street Vegan Academy Cookbook: Over 100 Plant-Sourced Recipes Plus Practical Tips for the Healthiest, Most Compassionate You  – By  Victoria Moran

An educational cookbook. Some great vegan recipes, beautiful images and delicious looking recipes. Well structured, with chapter pages that list the recipes within it. There is a good selection of traditional recipes made vegan along with new ideas. There is also sections spread out that contain information or tips on living the vegan lifestyle. The first two chapters are for myth busting and understanding the basic principles, which is well written and not judgemental. I liked it!

The Minimalist Kitchen: 100 Wholesome Recipes, 36 Essential Tools, and Efficient Techniques – By Melissa Coleman

Oh so beautiful. The style of this book got me, so simple and modern, the images are stunning. I want to up and move into this book. The author writes in a nice style, a lovely ease that feels warm and welcoming. A great section on Minimalism and how to achieve it at the start of the book, including equipment and ingredients. the recipes are broken down into weekend, weekday and make ahead to make planning easier. There is also a large section on how to plan out your meals so not to waste food. A great book!

March is going to involve Everything Is Lies by Helen Callaghan, The F Word by Lily Pebbles and After You by Jojo Moyes. What else should I be reading? leave any suggestions in the comments please, I’m always looking for inspiration.
